The topic is one I found interesting, and I'm sure Chandler has some good stories, but he should stick to telling them over beer because his writing is terrible.I've never seen page after page in any book with so many paragraphs. He writes summaries of thoughts, not descriptions.

Catching Thieves Inside America Retail s eBook Colt Chandler Reviews
Immediately after I graduated from high school, I found my first summer job at a local major retail chain in Southern California. I remember when I first became aware of the Loss Prevention department of the store. It was a group of four guys that worked in a small room full of cameras. I always found the job fascinating and thought it would be full of great stories! According to Colt C. Chandler's new book Catching Thieves in America's Retail s,I was right!
The book is full of extensive first hand knowledge of loss prevention stories often humorous but sometimes thrilling and occasionally heartbreaking. It is obvious that Cold Chandler not only loved his job, but was fantastic at what he did.
I really enjoyed the details he gave of his experience during the LA riots many years ago. I remember watching the looting on television, but he was there! Additionally, I was shocked to see how many weapons he had come across in his time on the job.
This book is very helpful for anyone looking into a career in loss prevention.
Catching Thieves by Colt Chandler is actually a truly entertaining book. It is amazing to think that in 2008 theft cost retailers 45 billion dollars. How sad, because these thieves are living it up while consumers are paying the price. The author said it perfectly, "Theft is out of control."
The author goes of scenarios that have happened in his career and I will say that they are entertaining, sad and some are just amazing that these thieves thought that they could get away with these acts. The funniest crooks were the ones that were stealing Oakland Raiders gear and he would ask them to name two players and they could go...but as you guessed it they could barely name one. He actually asked over 40 people in his career and not one could name two. Amazing.
Catching Thieves does a good job of showing us how important Loss Prevention is in our retail industry. He also gives us the ten commandments of Loss Prevention and they are pretty good for the retail industry. It is a n interesting read and if it's not your forte, it is a good laugh.
My Thoughts-Terri Williams
Loss Prevention Officers are not rent a security cops. The author describes his job as "We provide a real value to our companies on a regular basis. Our employers rely on us when company assets disappear. "
Catching Thieves is a compilation of entertaining stories and the job description of a LPO. Colt C. Chandler worked for years in the field of Loss Prevention and never had a dull day on the job. Colt Chandler uses humor to describe the wacky events that took place in the retail world. It was a different world 20 years ago, before everyone was sue happy. As a LPO he was able to chase thieves 2 miles away to apprehend them. He wasn't sued when a thief jumped off of a 3 story parking structure for "feeling threatened." Most of these stories are history because the laws protect the thieves so well today and their rights.
The author has a way of telling each story that makes you laugh with him and shake your head in disbelief. It is amazing how thieves just steal. Some of the thieves ended back in prison and one for stealing roach motels, was it worth it-I don't think so. These stories were written to give perspective to anyone wanting to pursue a LPO career. There is so much humor and a lot of insight to the job of a LPO in this e-book. I laughed out loud multiple times and shared these hilarious stories and new vocabulary with my husband as I read
I have to say, I so thoroughly enjoyed this book that I read it in one sitting! It's definitely an easy read which I always love! It's nice to just enjoy a book without thinking about what words mean or trying to follow a complicated plotline. Chandler's style of writing is raw and honest and he leaves little to the imagination. This may be a turn-off to the ultra-conservative but he does put a warning of "truth revealed" on the cover so they won't be shocked.
Chandler details stories from his career as a Loss Prevention Specialist as well as the realities of the job, which is not for the faint of heart, weak or scared; "Kevlar's" as he calls them. Most of the stories are entertaining but also divulge the darkest sides of human nature that most of us don't see (luckily!). It's amazing to me the things that people will do or say when they are caught. I found myself laughing out loud for the majority of this book.
There were also some not so funny stories when his life was in danger because of other people's stupidity. It's scary to think that their safety is largely dependent on their partner's dependability. That is a huge demonstration of trust that they have to possess for their partner. Most people aren't even capable of that level of trust.
This book gave me a whole new respect for LP's. I must admit I believed the stereotypes that he details ("rent-a-cop, checking receipts, guarding the door) and had no idea what their jobs were really like. This book gave me a whole new respect for them now that I have an understanding of what they actually do. It is not a job I could do due largely in part to the amount of latex gloves they have go through! Seriously though, it's a dangerous job dealing with lowlifes who are willing to kill for a $10 item they shoplifted.
I loved Chandler's style of writing with such honesty and humor that it felt like sitting down with a friend and telling a story over a cup of coffee. His language was on my level and his use of current slang made him relatable. While the word "onward" was definitely over-used, I have no doubt it will become a part of my everyday vocabulary! He added a printable of the Ten Commandments of being an LP and pictures of weapons he had confiscated in just 60 days! These little bonuses just add to the entertainment aspect of the book!
While a career as an LP Specialist is definitely not in my future, I'm glad I have a clear picture and newfound respect for all that they do. I also now know to never think that I'm "alone" in the aisle of a store if I should feel the need to pick my nose or do something equally inappropriate! (Not that I would EVER do such a thing!) Somebody is watching! Thanks for the information Chandler!
I work as a sales associate at a retail chain and it opened my eyes to the crazy things AP or LP have to deal with.
The topic is one I found interesting, and I'm sure Chandler has some good stories, but he should stick to telling them over beer because his writing is terrible.
