Not only is our heroine unacceptable due to her general attitude, but she also kisses dogs on their mouth immediately after they have licked their butt while doing number two. Eww!! The name of her detective agency is “Gotcha”. Seriously, how old is the author, 12?? The plot is really good but the characters are lacking. Action is acceptable but ending leaves a little to be desired.Product details

Let Us Prey Gotcha Detective Agency Mystery Book 1 edition by Jamie Lee Scott Romance eBooks Reviews
It’s great to recommend a story so wholeheartedly. Often I buy books that say mystery but turn out to be romance, or so poorly written they are hard to enjoy. This book, however, is well written, fast paced, has great characters AND a mystery.
After the death of her husband, Mimi stepped down from the secret service and opened a detective agency. Among the typical marriage cases and background checks, she is hired to help protect a popular author after some death threats. And after the murder of the author’s assistant, things get scary.
The scary things include the disgustingly gruesome murder, the lies, attempted murder, and oh right, meeting up with her college boyfriend...
Overall, it was very well written. No gaping plot holes, no errors, and characters that I enjoyed getting to know. A little predictable as far as romance goes, but it could be worse. However, the author clearly has a very thinly veiled disdain for fat people. She attached emotional words to foods and insulted the looks of every character who was anything other than thin. It's pretty obvious that she is disgusted by heavy people and it definitely over shadowed the plot.
A DNF for me at 26%. I didn't like Mimi at all, the humor seemed too flat, and Nick was a jerk with no redeeming qualities. Everything felt shallow.
The story started out with interesting characters in this whodunnits. I liked where it was going but then the bad language was thrown in which did nothing to enhance the story.
Let us Prey by Jamie Lee Scott deals with the Gotcha Detective Agency in a case dealing with the murder of a famous author of vampire novels. There is a lot of girlish gush about food, clothes and house decoration, and what makes a man attractive as well as some odd writing--"I had to inferr myself into their odd little group" or "I wish I didn't know it ahead time..."The heroine is not always ethical. She keeps knowledge from the police and is easily sidetracked by thoughts of sex with suspects, non-suspects, or the police. There may be readers who enjoy this kind of writing, and I recommend this book to them.
I enjoyed this book very much, it was a good mystery and lighthearted. I would have given it a 5 star rating except that toward the end of the book, the character, Mimi, walks into the police station and mentions the others in the waiting area, Hispanics and crying babies, the smell and the imagined question of a child, who if she understood Spanish would be asking "Is Daddy in jail". This short excerpt was enough to put me off of this author. Is that what she thinks of Hispanics? Too bad, my loss perhaps because the stories are good but I hope it is her loss as well. Perhaps she needs to get to know Hispanics before making such offensive comments about them in her books.
This could have been a good book, but it was crude. It demeaned women. I did not enjoy all the touchy, feely behavior. I did not even finish this book. My time can be spent with reading better books.
